Pop Quiz: the next generation, the saga continues

Post by David L »

This one should be easy, easy, easy!

No, it's not a shag carpet area rug.

No, it's not a side order of grits.

??????????

Right before they roll tuna in a strip of seaweed at a sushi bar, it looks like that. So I'm thinking maybe I have no idea what wood it is. But if I wanted to tune a wood (get it? tuna wood?) it would probably work.

Tuna wood?

Ok so maybe it's not so easy. A couple of hints: It is not domestic and it is all sapwood.

It looks just like a ginormous piece of Bubinga I saw in Woodcraft a while back.

It is not unusual to see enormous pieces of Bubinga, the tree itself can attain great heights and the trunks can reach 6' in diameter (or more). I love the figure on this piece (waterfall). It is a very hard wood but I find that it works fairly easy. Guibourtia Tessmannii, also known as African Rosewood, although not a true Rosewood (no Dalbergia designation) it is supposed to be denser than some Rosewoods and some reports say that it is an up and coming tonewood (take that for what it's worth). I have used it in a few projects and I just love it.
As far as what you win, well, some reports say that there is the "possibility" of a $1,000,000 grand prize winner (the operative word being "possibility"), so stay tuned, keep playing, and keep guessing, you never know...
