Most of you experienced woodworking guys probably already know about this stuff, but I wanted to tell about it for those who don't. I didn't know there was a glue remover that would take water based glues off without damaging a finish. So I was living with some UHGGly squeeze out on a bridge and around a fretboard: I had put too much glue on.

So, yesterday, I'm reading the Guild of American Lutherie (GAL) journal, and there an article on this stuff. Supposedly works with all waterbased glues (Hide glue, Titebond and LMI White glue, etc), even if they've been dry for a long time. Looked it up, called the local Woodcraft store, went and got a bottle. It's thick, smells like vinegar.

If you want to see what it did, go to this link. I'm sure most of you guys don't blow it like I did here, and I don't usually, but it sure was nice to find a safety net!

Great stuff.

Bill;
Is this an excerpt from your upcoming book "Guitar Building for Dummies"? Nice to know that enough other people have had the same problem to spawn a hole product offering....AND have people talk about it to boot!
As always, THANKS for sharing,
KT
OH...and Great Stuff...when you find a remover for THAT stuff let me know...I've got it all over a formerly nice pair of dress pants. "Just let me fill this little gap by the door, dear and I'll be ready to lea....ah shooot!"

Kevin -- Hey, I figured, if it was a wide spread enough problem to get into the GAL journal, I wasn't the only one spilling too much glue!

Bummer about your pants... uh, isn't there a warning on the label of Great Stuff that says something like "This product should never be used to fill gaps in your dress pants." ... or something like that? Maybe I didn't have my reading glasses on...

Great Stuff is impervious to Nuclear attack. My house will be toast and the stuff I shot in around the doors will still be standing!

No...I think they are long gone now. I'll hi-jack this further by saying that IF you ever have any silicon caulk to remove 3M makes an excellent caulk remover that appears to work similarly to the De-Glue stuff. YOu put it on, let it sit for 30 minutes and the stuff softens right up adn can now be cut or scraped out!

I realize that silicon caulk isn't a guitar building staple...but the next itme you need to re-caulk your tub...you're in!
