I just registered and this is my first post! I really would like to build my own acoustic guitar. I'm 16 and play my Martin a lot, but my dad (who also plays) and I would like to build one at some point.
I tend to want only the best of the best when it comes to material items. That's why I can't get this Martin D35 Brazilian Rosewood B&S, Adirondack Spruce Top kit I found for sale online out of my mind. It's $900 for the entire kit and seems like it would make such a nice guitar. That's a lot of money, but I don't mind spending it on something like this.
My father is a contractor/carpenter and has a lot of woodworking skills and tools. We also have a shop area in our basement that we'd like to make the designated guitar building zone. In my mind, if we learn about the process, read enough information and take our time while preparing and assembling, we should have no problem constructing a great instrument.
It's not the question of whether or not to do it, or if we are able to, it's whether or not to get such a nice kit or a "simple" StewMac kit. My dad will most likely say we should get the latter, but I think it'd be nice to make one that is extra nice seeing as it might be the only one we end up making...
Any thoughts or advise would be greatly appreciated.
