I'm sanding the guitar getting ready to apply tru-oil.
The back is a little blotchy - will this even out as I go up through the grits and start applying the oil, or is there a way to address this now?
FYI - I did wipe on a coat of shellac which made the blotchiness blotchier.
Thanks

WEll, aren't I the big goof?
I had a change of mind, and after a real good prep of the back/sides, I brushed on a coat of Minwax sanding sealer (the correct one).
Of course, as I brushed it on, my heart sang and I wanted to share it with the world, it looked so gorgeous. No pore filling, just great wood. You can never have too much great wood...
That was yesterday. Today, it still looked good after a 24 hour drying period; so I cut a fresh piece of 220 and started sanding.
It could be that I am not clear on what the task at hand is, so I am asking the Forumites: what should the back look like after sanding the sealer with 220? Another way of putting it: the directions on the can talk about a scuff coat - but I'm thinking that, since wipe-on poly (minwax) will be the top coat, shoudn't the back and sides look perfect, not scuffy, before I start the wipe-on.
Finishing. Can't live with it, can't live without it.
Thanks
