Wow Charles,
I just checked out your size 5 and its beautiful. I love the 4 piece back. What kind of wood is the top?

Hi Woody,
Thanks for your kind words. The top is redwood from one of Craig and Alicia Carter's reclaimed trees. I love the stripey nature of the tops from this billet. I have also seen its sister billet which has a light center with dark stripes on the side.

Very Nice, Charles. I too love the top. The spruce that I have seems to have an aged look as well as some streaking, but nowhere near the color yours does. I still can't seem to be able to carve a volute worth a damn, but yours looks great.

Pretty, Charles! Nice job -- I like how the turquoise contrasts so nicely, and the narrow sapwood strip along the side is cool.

Thanks, guys. It was so fun making it.

Redwood is a fantastic top, but watch out for those splinters! - it's definitely a more brittle tonewood than spruce. I remember bending red spruce, sitka spruce, german spruce, and redwood to their breaking points. german was particularly flexible, but redwood snapped almost immediately.

Little details like the volute make me so happy - it's nice to hear feedback from other builders since you guys really get it.

Many people were skeptical about the turquoise, but I love how it turned out. Did anyone notice that the purfling is Black Orange Black? I should post clearer pictures of that. The orange just fit right on in.

I should post a picture with better lighting for the area around the end pin. It has the colors of Jupiter.

Anyways, I'll be posting some pictures of my dread soon - it's glued together and just needs to be setup.

That is a very nice guitar. Your skills are really coming along!
Do you do anything other than build guitars these days? :>)

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the kind comments. No - just kidding, I have also been sitting in a cubicle 5 days a week :-)
