Thought this may impact choices for finishing materials so I thought I would share.

Posted by Rick Turner on another msg board:

"The LaurenceMcFadden paint company, in business since 1885 and supplier of the finest lacquer, polyurethane, and polyester finishes to much of the fretted instrument business has shut down as of this week. The company is in bankruptcy and are negotiating to sell their formulas to other entities. This is going to hit our industry like a bomb...they supply Fender, Guild, Ovation, Martin, Taylor, and countless smaller makers."

I was contacted by Mcfadden and was told they will be re-openning the last week of August ---- Carol indicated that I will be supplied additional info at that time. BTW Martin does not use Mcfadden lacquer or the two part polyester finish (they way to go if you have a booth), only the wipe-on down in Mexico.

Well, apparently the Chapter 11 didn't work out. Latest news I've read is they have closed their doors by court order. Here is what was posted on another forum today:

Their formulations were sold to Seagraves Coatings, but until the Court approves the liquidation, they can't do anything with them. The UV polyester folks have moved on to other suppliers.
