Here is the thread for listing guitar building classes in your area or anywhere that you are planning on going to.

Let's limit this to classes on building ... not playing and not guitar shows like Healdsburg, etc.

Intermediate Building Course - Seattle Area May 17-30

All,

Doing a little recruiting to find an additional student or two for an Intermediate Building course taught by Rick Davis of Running Dog Guitars in the Seattle area (Fremont). I'm currently signed up, but we need to find a few more to make the course viable.

Here is the blurb from Ricks and Cats site:

Intermediate Guitar Building
Instructor: Rick Davis
May 17-30
$3000 (plus materials)
Email: Rick Davis rick@vtguitars.com

In this intensive couse we'll build a steel-string guitar from scratch using all the tools, jigs, and fixtures of a modern lutherie shop.

More time will be spent on wood selection and voicing than in an introductory course. For people who have built at least one guitar or who have significant woodworking experience.</font>

Charles Kuo and I did a Saturday afternoon voicing session with Rick a couple of weeks back, and I can say that getting hands on, face-to-face instruction from an expert like Rick is immensely valuable. I also can't say enough about Rick and his teaching methods. He's very patient, listens, gives direct, succinct answers to questions, and is the consummate professional.

If you are interested, you can contact Rick directly via his websites

Sound Guitar Workshop (view course descriptions, and sign up for classes, etc...)
Running Dog Guitars (to see some of Ricks work)

or if you like you can PM or Email me (from my profile here) with questions, and I'll pass them on.

I believe Rick occasionally reads the boards here, so he may be able to respond to specific questions in this thread as well.

If you live or are going to be in Central Florida check out Ken Bailey in Plant City, which is between Tampa and Orlando. Information is on his web site.

I've played his instruments. They sound and play great. When I get a few more bucks I intend to take his class. He can teach from scratch or from a kit. He also build's banjo's and I think mandolins. Last I checked I think Ken is the President of the Florida Bluegrass Association.

Woodcraft in Atlanta Ga is offering a class in September. We will be building the US Guitar Kits guitar. It is a Dreadnought style in sapele with spruce top, or Sycamore with a ceder top. We supply the kit and all the tools, it even comes with a hard case. This a great way to build your first guitar. i am the teacher of this class and you can contact me if you have any questions.

Then Fret House (http://www.frethouse.com) has had a guitar building class for the past 2 years. Taught by proprietor Tom Seymour and local builder Mark Geiger (http://www.geigerguitars.com), the class meets once a week on the weekend for 15 weeks. The class uses a Stew-Mac kit and takes the students through assembly to finishing and setup. Next class is expected to start in Jan, 2011.
