I came across this today --- what I think you should see is the little section regarding how and when the workers install the kerfing. I think it will dispel the belief that the rim will spring into a big circle if it is taken out of the mold.

I agree , if your set wants to spring back you didn't bend it right. I can tell you the bodues that you see are only there for about 24 hrs and are then molded and in the process . Once in the process they are in the mold until the top and back are on.
from that station they are radiused to true the sides and kerfing. The entire production facility is full of gret ideas. If you every get a chance a tour of CFMartin is a great way to spend a few hours
